We loved the story doing the rounds this week about Fentimans lemonade causing an underage drinking row in Maine in the US. Apparently the drink contains 0.5% alcohol, which is enough to class it as an “imitation liquor” (how romantic). However, the comment from Eldon Robson, Fentimans managing director (also master brewer, and great-grandson of founder Thomas Fentiman) was classic.
“Maine is of course where our Puritanical forefathers went because Britain was not strict enough and it has been said that Puritans are people who are always worried that someone, somewhere might be having fun.”
Patriotic, arch, elegant and amusing all in one. Nicely done.
